Acute and Emergency Pediatric Care Conference

The emphasis of this conference is to provide practical clinical information regarding urgent and emergent pediatric care. A faculty both academically and clinically oriented will address issues and provide valuable information and insight into situations presented to clinicians and nurses who care for children in offices or the emergency department. Course Director: Jay Pershad, M.D.

Conference Objectives

  1. Review early recognition and current management ofcommon pediatric emergencies such as shock, statusepilepticus, the difficult airway, sports injuries, resus-citation of the newborn, the febrile infant, burns, car-diac emergencies and acute pain.
  2. Assess and troubleshoot the "technology dependant"child.
  3. Identify strategies to improve patient satisfaction,enhance patient safety and effectively communicateadverse outcomes in the acute care setting.
  4. Discuss controversies in the treatment of acute otitismedia, pharyngitis & sinusitis.
  5. Describe prehospital initiatives for children in ourstate including disaster preparedness.
