The TN Pediatric Society Foundation (the “Foundation”) is a non-profit foundation affiliated with the Tennessee Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (TNAAP). The Board of Directors of the Foundation includes pediatricians and community leaders.  Our mission is to help Tennessee pediatricians to identify, develop, and implement targeted service and research programs designed to improve the health and welfare of Tennessee’s children, whether community or state-wide.

The Foundation is also a way for pediatricians to put their ideas to work.  Pediatricians submit ideas for research studies, public relations or other outreach programs for improving children’s health and safety. The Foundation staff develops budgets, locates and applies for grant opportunities, and administers the programs in accordance with the requirements of the funding source, while pediatricians administer and oversee the projects.

The Foundation offers a venue for pediatricians in Tennessee to educate children and parents about the ways they can improve their child’s health, whether it be diabetes prevention, bicycle helmet education, tobacco cessation assistance, or drug abuse prevention programs, to name a few of the countless possibilities.  By working with pediatricians in their offices, the Foundation can develop programs that work.

Gifts and grants to the Foundation are tax-deductible. The Foundation differs from TNAAP in several ways, including the fact that it is a 501(c)(3) charity, as opposed to a membership organization.  Therefore, it may not engage in political activities, but can seek grants from charitable and governmental organizations that may not be available to TNAAP as a 501(c)(6).  Individuals—pediatricians or otherwise-- may also make donations and planned gifts from their estate to leave a legacy for children’s health programs.
