FTC's Red Flags Rule Delayed Yet Again Until June 1, 2010

Update: The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has delayed the compliance deadline of the Red Flags Rule until June 1, 2010.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Red Flags Rule, which has identified physicians as "creditors" and outlines identity theft policies, was scheduled to take effect on November 1, 2009 for all physician practices. AZ Medical Association (ArMA) has just received notification that the FTC has announced the delay of the Rule until June 1, 2010. In the meantime, the American Medical Association (AMA), backed by state medical associations, will continue to lobby in Washington, D.C., to request that all physicians be exempted from this law, with a formal comment period of 90 days. There are many efforts on every level to obviate the onerous impact of this law. To assist our members, the ArMA Red Flags Rule toolkit is free as a membership benefit.
