Why Join TNAAP?

Advocacy

The Tennessee Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (TNAAP) maintains relationships with Tennessee’s legislative and executive branches. TNAAP's lobbying presence on “the Hill” assures that the interests of children and pediatricians are protected in vital areas such as injury prevention, TennCare reform and school-related issues.

Publications

Members receive the Chapter newsletter, The Tennessee Pediatrician, and other informative mailings and alerts, including the The Prevention & Intervention News, a newsletter produced twice each year. The use of email allows for timely communications regarding issues such as HIPAA compliance tools and pressing changes to the TennCare program.

EPSDT/Coding Education

TNAAP works with the Bureau of TennCare to improve the volume and quality of preventive health screens and related treatment performed for children on TennCare. These screens are referred to as Early Periodic Screening, Diagnosis and Treatment (EPSDT). TNAAP works closely with state officials and other EPSDT stake-holders and coordinates activities related to this collaboration. TNAAP offers educational programs and resources for EPSDT, pediatric coding and developmental/behavioral screening. These programs are a direct benefit of membership and there is no charge to members.

Other Education

TNAAP provides several forums, educational meetings, and conferences such as the Pediatric Practice Managers’ Network (PMN) and the Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) conferences to its membership each year, with many of these offering CME credits.  Members receive invitations to all of the Chapter’s educational events and often pay reduced registration fees.

Practice Managers’ Network

The Pediatric Practice Managers’ Network (PMN) provides TNAAP members’ practice managers with a professional network of colleagues to discuss crucial management issues, share pertinent experiences, increase knowledge, and improve their management skills in order to strengthen the practices in which they work. PMN conferences consist of multiple sessions with expert presenters, peer-led workshops, networking opportunities, and group discussions.

The Tennessee Pediatric Society Foundation

The Tennessee Pediatric Society Foundation was established to implement programs that benefit the health, safety, and well-being of Tennessee’s children by opening the door to new sources of funding.  The Foundation is the tax-deductible fund raising arm of the Tennessee Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (TNAAP) and, as such, provides opportunities for TNAAP members to expand their role as community leaders and champions of Tennessee’s children.  For over 50 years, TNAAP has been a leading voice, advocate, and authority for the physical, mental, and social welfare of infants, children and adolescents, as well as for the pediatricians who care for them.

Examples of important programs the Foundation has sponsored include: (a) the Vitamin D Campaign, a program addressing the prevention of nutritional rickets in infants and children in Tennessee; (b) the Bicycle Helmet Safety Initiative, a program highlighting the importance of wearing a helmet while biking; (c) the Middle School Walk/Run Program, designed to improve the long-term health of children by promoting walking and running as lifelong exercise; and (d) most recently the Oral Health Project, promoting better dental care in the Appalachian region of East Tennessee.  These projects represent the important work the Foundation is doing to address critical health needs and provide education to children and their families in our state.

The Foundation logo, reminiscent of the Tennessee state flag and our three grand divisions, represents our three stars: children, families, and the dedicated pediatricians who provide care.  With continued support from our friends, we look forward to providing even more services to the deserving children who call Tennessee home.

TNAAP works with the Foundation Board to identify grant opportunities and community partnerships that match member interests and the Chapter’s mission.

Special Events

TNAAP and the Foundation plan events each year including our Annual Awards event and our benefit golf tournament.  Members are encouraged to attend these special events.
