Award Criteria

Award categories and criteria are as follows:

• Pediatrician of the Year Award
• Senior Pediatrician of the Year Award
• Lifetime Achievement Award
• Legislator of the Year Award
• Friend of Children Award

Pediatrician of the Year Award

Qualifications

1. He or she must be a pediatrician who has made an outstanding and significant contribution to society either at the local, regional or national level.
2. The contribution may have been an ongoing and longstanding one or a one-time recent or otherwise mark on society for the welfare and improvement of child health. The field of contribution may be in the practice of pediatrics, academic pediatrics or pediatric research.
3. A nominee must have the respect and admiration of his or her colleagues.
4. The nominee must currently perform his or her work and/or practice in the State of Tennessee.

Selection Process

1. A nominee must be submitted from any pediatric society within the state or may be submitted by any TNAAP member, colleague of nominee, patients, or members of the community.
2. The nomination must be submitted to the TNAAP Executive Committee for final selection.
3. Final selection of one nominee will be made by the TNAAP Executive Committee following adequate evaluation of the nominees.

Announcement

The announcement and presentation shall be made on September 17, 2011 at the Tennessee Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics Annual Awards Event, benefiting the Tennessee Pediatric Society Foundation.

Presentation

An appropriate plaque in recognition of service will be given to the recipient. The winner is encouraged to be present to receive the award.

Senior Pediatrician of the Year Award

Qualifications

1. He or she must be a retired or retiring pediatrician who has made an outstanding and significant contribution to society either at the local, regional or national level.
2. The contribution may have been an ongoing and longstanding one or a one-time recent or otherwise mark on society for the welfare and improvement of child health. The field of contribution may be in the practice of pediatrics, academic pediatrics or pediatric research.
3. A nominee must have the respect and admiration of his or her colleagues.
4. The nominee must have practiced in the state of Tennessee.

1. A nominee must be submitted from any pediatric society within the state or may be submitted by any TNAAP member, colleague of nominee, patients, or members of the community.
2. The nomination must be submitted to the TNAAP Executive Committee for final selection.

Lifetime Achievement Award

Eligibility Criteria

1. Nominations may be made on behalf of individuals who are living at the time of the nomination.
2. Candidates have at one time been members of TNAAP.
3. There are no restrictions with regard to race, gender, nationality, geographic location, or religious or political views.

Nominees are assessed for their longstanding and distinguished careers of service in six categories:

1. Combining scientific principles with humane practice in his/her clinical care and being committed to the best practice of medicine
2. Advancing the practice of medicine through original research, creative technology application or unique practice structures
3. Displaying imaginative, innovative and inspirational teaching
4. Providing organizational leadership at the local, state or national level in issues of professional practice, legislative advocacy or public health policy
5. Displaying exemplary personal attributes
6. Displaying social consciousness and community involvement.

Legislator of the Year Award

1. He or she must be an elected congressman or legislator in the state of Tennessee who has made an outstanding and significant contribution to the betterment of children in the state of Tennessee either at the local, regional or national level.
2. The contribution may have been an ongoing and longstanding one or a one-time recent or otherwise mark on society for the welfare and improvement of child health. The field of contribution may be in the practice of pediatrics, academic pediatrics or pediatric research.
3. A nominee must have the respect and admiration of his or her colleagues.
4. The nominee must currently be serving in the state of Tennessee.

Selection Process

1. A nomination must be submitted from any pediatric society within the state or may be submitted by any TNAAP member, colleague of nominee, patients, or members of the community.
2. The nominees must be submitted to the TNAAP Executive Committee for final selection.
3. Final selection of one nominee will be made by the TNAAP Executive Committee following adequate evaluation of the nominees.

2. The contribution may have been an ongoing and longstanding one or a one-time recent or otherwise mark on society for the welfare and improvement of child health. The field of contribution may be in the practice of pediatrics, academic pediatrics or pediatric research.
3. A nominee must have the respect and admiration of his or her colleagues.
4. The nominee must be active in the welfare of child health in the state of Tennessee.

Selection Process

1. A nomination must be submitted from any pediatric society within the state or may be submitted by any TNAAP member, colleague of nominee, patients, or members of the community.
2. The nominees must be submitted to the TNAAP Executive Committee for final selection.
3. Final selection of one nominee will be made by the TNAAP Executive Committee following adequate evaluation of the nominees.
